Change happens to us all. Luckily, the human mind is built for navigating change, both the good and the bad – and we are more capable than we might realize at handling the unexpected changes that come our way. When we approach change with humility and openness, we can avoid letting the fear of the unknown prevent us from embracing necessary change and creating a more desirable – and even happier outcome.
In today’s episode, I am talking to Dr. Maya Shankar, cognitive behavioral scientist who served as a senior advisor in the Obama White House where she founded and served as the chair of the White House behavioral science team. Maya has a postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Neuroscience at Stanford, a Ph.D. from Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, and a BA from Yale. She is also the host, creator, and executive producer of the podcast: A Slight Change Of Plans.
During our incredible conversation, Dr. Maya talks all about change and how every single person experiences it, no matter how big or small. Dr. Maya shares her story about how a career-ending injury turned into an opportunity, why humans fear and avoid change, how to honor the inner knowing of making a necessary change, and what you can do to unlock the trepidation surrounding change. Plus, she also shares words of encouragement for us as we walk through our own unique journey of change.
